“Fashion is what we’re offered four times a year. Style is what you pick out of that fashion.
It’s what you make of it once you’ve learned what to accept and ignore based on what looks good on you!”
Most people tend to use fashion and style interchangeably; however, they are not the same.
What is Fashion?
Fashion is the overall style inside a given culture at a particular time. It usually has to do with recent trends: It combines well-known methods of dressing during a particular period or era.
During a particular year, we come across four to five fashion trends. These fashion trends are presented to the people through fashion shows which are organized by fashion houses. The designers, bloggers, and influencers then present their view of the fashion trend and the retailers utilize all the information to offer clothes and garments in line with the trends to people in general. It is pre-determined and is dictated by a commonality that unites the people as one entity. A significant element of fashion is the manner in which the most recent patterns or designs are dispersed, whether by employing digital mediums like social media or magazines.
Fashion relates to an external part of who we are, as a number of people following these trends can adapt to it. Yet not everyone is able to pull off those ongoing fashion trends. This is because fashion is all about the clothing and materials themselves, so they might look fancy and stylish on the hanger with the flares and the cuts. However, this does not guarantee the fact that the person wearing it will look stylish as well. The wearer, when assembled perfectly from head to toe, gives the style to the garment.
What is Style?
Style refers to an individual’s specific method of articulating their thoughts, regardless of whether that is through clothing, composing style, or a style of design. It usually indicates one’s personal style or the way an individual puts themselves out there through tasteful decisions like their garments, embellishments, hairdo, and the manner in which they set up their outfit.
Style is an innate part of who we are. It is a process of understanding what suits you, your body, and your personality as a whole. One’s personal style should incorporate some of the ongoing fashion items even very subtly, to keep themselves up to date. True confidence and a positive attitude are displayed when one dresses in a way that suits their personality.
The fashion models, for example, have their own style even though they live in the fashion world. The clothes that they wear and the way that they wear them to indicate their own unique style. In other words, we can say that when fashion is modified by an individual and mingled with their personality, then it is called style. As someone rightly said, “If you want to be in style, you only have to do one thing, instead of following trends, set trends.”
What is the difference between fashion and style?
Fashion is a trend that usually changes from time to time and is inconsistent. However, style on the other hand is the personal adaptation of fashion. Style depends on fashion because people having their personal style may also follow the in-trend fashion, but fashion is independent of one’s unique style. Fashion removes our consideration from ourselves, style brings our consideration directly to our own selves. The definitions of both fashion and style also acknowledge where the emphasis is put. With fashion, it is on the clothing, the things considered to be chic. With style, it’s on the individual. Style is an approach to build a closer relationship with yourself, as its spotlight and direction are on oneself and how it’s communicated through clothing choices.
Conclusion
Fashion is very dynamic in nature. Everything that one wears which is in fashion today isn’t likely to be in fashion very soon. Style too is shifting but its dynamism has to do with one’s own self. It is tied in with respecting your uniqueness and having your exterior match your inner parts. Fashion fades away quickly but style is forever.
