Fusion fashion and its global outreach as a debate
Fusion fashion is one of the latest emerging fashion trends which combines two or more clothing styles from different cultural backgrounds. This new concept of fashion has gained popularity in the past few years and is admired for the bold and innovative ideas it brings to the fashion industry.
A lot of styles formulated from different cultures have been produced, but one of the best and most liked is the fusion of western and Indian styles. People love contemporary and vintage style outfits, and hence the demand for fusion fashion has made a place in the fashion industry, especially the Indian fashion industry.
Fusion wear is a beautiful mix that amalgamates the western and cultural worlds and celebrates their fusion and styles. It could be of various types and just as simple as a spaghetti top with a traditional printed Rajasthani skirt. This type of fashion exhibits the creativity we as humans have brought into this world by coming together and working as one.
It allows a person to be abstract and break away from the norms or categories that we have made out of fashion. One of the best ensembles of fusion fashion as well as the best sellers are maxi dresses, palazzos, kurtas with trousers, dhotis with kurtis, capes, etc. The fashion styles that are working wonders in the fashion industry are crop top lehengas with jackets, wearing Kurti as a dress, off-shoulder blouses, etc.
Shishir Gupta, the owner of Kalki fashion, has shown emphasis on the turning of heads on tassels and capes. He also explains that the newer and modern version of the traditional lehenga, that is, the crop top lehenga, is in high demand in Kalki. It is also observed, looking at the portfolio of Global Desi, that sleeveless long spaghetti kurtas, maxis, tunics, and halter tops with traditional embroidery are doing extremely well and are in high demand.
Indian culture has had a wide impact on the western one and vice versa, whether it be bandanas, pashminas, or bindis. The evolving journey of such a product of fusion fashion can be from a kurta to a tunic, to a salwar, to a trouser dupatta that becomes a stole. This is a fashion style that offers variety to all people, regardless of size and age.
The usage of long skirts is also one of the factors of fusion fashion that can be worn by different generations, from young to old. Vibrant colors and intricate patterns with big Indian prints show the essence of fusion fashion in the indo-western category.
Nowadays, even high fashion brands, such as Versace, have started using Khadi as their fabric to create kurtas that go with jeans. Sparkling sequins and beautiful embroidery are used along with ethnic prints and cuts. Although a lot of brands have started inculcating fusion fashion, not many have truly and completely captured its essence, and yet to be seen is the complete range and possibilities of fusion fashion.
For example, we do see brands like Biba, producing smart tops and Fab India producing western wear with a touch of the Indian ethnic side, but their full portfolio of products hasn’t been fully discovered.
With this start of fusion fashion, we see many perspectives and viewpoints coming into light-reflecting this concept. Just like songs and paintings play an important role in displaying one’s culture, fashion is no different in doing the same. Many believe our clothes are intimately related to our culture and the values with which we have been raised. Fashion and clothes can be a way to signify our culture, such as to show religious beliefs, such as people wearing hijabs, a Jewish kippah, wearing symbols, etc.
Even for special events, belonging, and activity, with what we wear, we reflect our culture and purpose of wearing the outfit, and This is something very close to the people who are very protective of their culture. Many people, especially in the East, including Indians, believe that mixing different cultural backgrounds in fashion can lead to the loss of their own cultural identity and do not want their culture to die out or fade away with western influence.
On the other hand, the western perspective on this thought is that western fashion is more adaptive to its environment, countries, and cultures and welcomes all kinds of fashion types when it comes to creativity. Both Eastern and Western cultures have a huge impact on the fashion industry and bring diversity to this field.
We should understand that to embrace fusion fashion does not mean to lose the identity and purity of the culture from which fusion fashion is adapted, but to combine its beauty with the western and form an alluring product and celebrate our different traditions and cultures with a touch of the modern style to show the evolution we have reached in fashion.
Let us not forget a very important point when it comes to the fusion fashion of the Boho chic look. It is the most elegant combination of western and eastern influences on each other. It appreciates the beauty of contemporary style from western fashion and the sparkling jewels and beads from eastern flair.
The fashion industry has become global, connecting different people across the world with each other through the mix and match of different cultures through the fusion of fashion styles. What we wear is an important aspect of influencing people and helping us connect on a global scale.
Through the network of fashion designers, high fashion brands, and manufacturers, we become aware of all the different cultures out there and the creativity we bring while combining the two worlds of modern and culture. Fashion keeps on changing, season to season, bringing about different masterpieces every time it clashes and collaborates with the different fusions of cultural styles.
