To shield their crops, they would set up spots at their feast tables for good spirits and illuminate bonfires to terrify off foul spirits.
What Does Trick or Treat Mean?!

It is an ancient American culture that has its roots in Medieval Europe. Stories affirm that the phrase “trick or treat” has arisen from the words souling and guising. People did the practices during the Celtic celebrations, which they held from 31st October to the 1st of November. This festival signifies the commencement of the winter season. People used to deck up in mysterious costumes and hiked here and there mumming some verse or a melody for which in return they would receive feasts.
It is also said; that the tradition chiefly took hype in the Middle Ages by the people of Britain and Ireland. They would ramble on “All Saints Day” on 1st November requesting meals in return for droning prayers for the dead on “All Souls Day” on 2nd November. People that on this night, the inert souls wanted to revisit their homes and to show reverence to the souls. So, people went intoning prayers costumed like ghostly creatures and supplicating for presents on their account.
But in the 1950s people of the US and Canada open-heartedly accepted this notion of “trick and treat” and it got popular within no time. Now each year, people carouse this Halloween ritual on the evening of 31st October. Adolescents begin asking for “trick or treat” from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
