Whenever you think of a fashion magazine, Vogue’s name always pops out first. For more than a century, Vogue publishes articles that influence people. Even if you do not have an interest in fashion. Still, the monthly magazine has something to offer. From covering the biggest fashion issues, statements in the fashion industry to controversies. People do not only know the magazine but also the faces behind it. Anna Wintour, Editor-of-chief of Vogue, is a fashion mogul. Know for being an inspiration for many fashions journalist. While we are at it, you must be aware of the well-known rumor. Based on her industry reputation there is a popular book and movie, The Devil wears Prades. Well, you can not forget the creative director of Vogue, Grace Coddington. The mastermind behind the creative strategies has taken the magazine to this height. Now, people are always eager to know who is on the next Vogue cover? And what? Below is the list of Vogue covers that were the best of them all.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West, April 2014  

The controversy surrounds the Kardashian-West couple. So, how would their Vogue cover be left behind? The cover became popular because of the controversy that surrounds it. Madia went haywire when Rapper Kanye West became friends with Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. She was also spotted enjoying his New York Concert from the front row. For his wedding with his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, he wanted a spot on the cover of Vogue. So, he started a petition and pleaded with people for the spot. Well, he got it. But, people did not like it and thought the news was not worthy of Vogue cover.

Michelle Obama, March 2012

Barack Obama’s first presidential win brought many firsts. One of the first was First Lady Michelle Obama appearing for the first time on Vogue cover. Kennedy’s have always been in limelight, but after that there were none. Until Obama came to power. The paparazzi follow the family all the time. The cover called Michelle Obama as ‘The First Lady the World has been waiting for.’ The article showed her story. Vogue showed her in such a way that she became relatable to people.

Eyes Of The Model, April 1954         

Nowadays, photoshop is very important for all people. Everyone wants to edit their photos before uploading them on social media. So, why will magazines be left behind? Photoshop has made its place in the fashion industry. But, the Eyes of The Model cover was made when there was not any craze of the software. Vogue made similar artistic covers back in those days. Many covers were only made by drawing. But, this one is a combination of both photography and drawing. Creating a beautiful and unique cover for the magazine. In this 1954 cover, only the eyes of the model were enough to grab people’s attention.

Lena Dunham, February 2014

Lana Dunham is not a typical Hollywood star. With her bold attitude and amazing talent in numerous fields like writing, directing, producing, and acting she dazzled the audience. Known for her work in HBO’s popular drama GIRLS. She impressed the audience with her raw talent and amazing skills. Just like the actress’ attitude, it was bold of Vogue to place her on the cover. This showed people that the magazine is ready to take the risks. 

Diana, Princess Of Wales, August 1981

In 1981, on the eve of the wedding of Lady Diana and Prince Charles, Hair to British royal throne, Vogue made this cover. The date of this edition and their wedding coincided. Photographed by British photographer Lord Snowdon. The cover marked the entry of the people’s princess in the royal family. Vogue also published a supplement for the celebration of the wedding. It consists of information about the previous royal nuptials.

Nicole Kidman, May 2004 

The cover features Hollywood royalty Nicole Kidman, who is still considered the elite. It features her photo by photographer Irving Penn. The photo is a mixture of the magnificent old Hollywood glamor and a modern Hollywood star. The picture is so iconic, that it boosted that sales making it Vogue’s most purchased magazine in the world. The cover shows the blend of simple beauty and complex design of the dress.

Model Cover For 100th Anniversary, April 1992

Marking the centennial anniversary of the magazine, Vogue published a cover with well-known models. These were the ten established models in the world like Cindy Crawford and many others. All these models were early featured on Vogue covers. To celebrate the account, the photo was taken on a white background with models also wearing white clothes. This was an achievement for Vogue and celebrated it with this beautiful April issue. Featuring the women that were with the magazine during its ups and downs.         

Lady Gaga, March 2011         

Lady Gaga has always caught people’s attention with her avant-garde style. When she debuted with her music, people were waiting to see her on the Vogue cover. Her over-dramatic style is her identity. So, featuring Lady Gaga in a simple dress on the Vogue cover changed her identity that people knew. It made them shocked and instantly grabbed their attention. People wanted to know who the singer was as a person. So, the cover was a huge success.        

Gisele Bundchen And Robbie Williams, October 2000

Dropping as a shock for Americans in October of 2000. This cover created a huge scandal. Though, featuring men was not new on the cover of Vogue. But, it was shocking to see a naked man on a magazine cover in newsstands. The cover featured model Gisele Bundchen in an indecent bathing suit having a British flag. Along with rock star Robbie Williams as he tour across the globe.

Helmut Berger And Marisa Berenson, July 1970       

Every picture has a story. A proof is a cover that featured a photograph by David Bailey. Though the cover did not have a wow factor, it did create history in Vogue. Till then, Vogue was considered a women’s magazine. The covers only had women or were a women-centric theme. Featuring Helmut Berger alongside Marisa Berenson in this 1970s cover, Vogue took a new step towards change. Many famous personalities like Elton John and Manolo Blahnik have graced Vogue’s cover. Helmut Berger became the first man on the Vogue magazine cover.

The prissy magazine saw a diverse journey. Starting as a weekly newspaper and converting to the most-awaited monthly magazine. From cover made by drawing to having beautiful photos of a model. The magazine covers various issues and controversies. Not only that it also acknowledges topics from other genres. Topics like economic effect on fashion or political influence on fashion. Covers persuade people to buy the magazine. Proven time now and again that Vogue has a creative way to make a buzz. They did it for Vogue covers. Vogue’s creative ways have evolved a lot over the years. Now, Vogue subscribers and non-subscribers all curiously wait for the next issue.
