“Modeling Industry Gave Me Self-Confidence”, Tenzin Zomkyi
Tenzin Zomkyi, is a teen model, aged 19. The Tibetan model shares her in inspiring story of working hard upon herself and becoming confident from being diffident. Being a model and working in the modeling industry is many people’s dream. But not everyone makes it.
Life can be so unpredictable sometimes. One can never know what the destiny holds for them. Likewise, Tenzin Zomkyi, from Tibet never knew that she would be a model as she was always keen on designing.
Since childhood, Tenzin was always into paintings and arts. She always wanted to be a designer. But destiny had plans for her already. She never anticipated that she would be a part of the modeling industry. Her friends motivated the Tibetan model her to pursue modeling as she was tall.
“I was always into designing and creativity. Modeling was never my thing. My friends motivated me to o give it a shot. Because you know, Tibetans are not that tall and mine was average.”
She started her career in October 2020. Initially, her mother was not convinced because of safety reasons. Tenzin is her only child and she is a single mother. They never had any modeling background before.
Tenzin’s friends and Ninja Jagan founder of NINJA MODELS agency with whom she signed her contract convinced her mother.
“They all convinced my mother that this field is not bad. Many girls are doing great on this platform. Ninja ma’am also convinced her saying, ‘We will be taking care of her’. So, then my mother was convinced.”
After that, she came to Delhi and that was the beginning of her career. Also, she applied for fine arts for graduation and she is planning to study designing in her post-graduation.
“Right now, I will go with the flow, but my second option is designing only. I will be pursuing fine arts in graduation and designing in further studies.”
In the tenure of some months after joining she worked with many brands and companies. Her first brand shoot was with Guapa.
“It was a fabulous experience. Though, I was a bit scared and nervous as there were senior models too. It was like what if I cannot do good and all types of thinking. But they all were so down to earth and sweet.”
Along with this, the Tibetan model has also worked with Raw Mango, Rengee, Requil and many more. She also did TVC for Ajio. She also worked with renowned photographer Ashish Chawla.
“Working with Ashish Chawla was so great. He was so calm and polite person. He was motivating and helping me throughout the whole shoot. Unlike other photographers who get rude.”
Tenzin also faced manipulation in the modeling industry. She was targeted by a fake profile of a photographer. Though, soon she realized it and rejected it.
“They were offering me extra money for no reason. I was quite shocked. I asked them to talk to my agency but they were consistently offering me extra money which was quite weird for me. Later on, I realized it was nothing but a fake profile and I rejected it.”
Her overall experience was full of fun and learning. She was quite introverted and diffident in childhood. She never used to take a stand for herself. Children used to be bully her because of being quiet and lack of confidence. After being a model, she gained her self-confidence and learned to take a stand for herself.
“Modeling industry was quite helpful for me. I learned to speak up. Earlier, I used to say nothing even after not feeling comfortable with anything, but now I can say no and speak up when needed. Modeling build my self-confidence and I am grateful for that.”
Tenzin, along with the modeling loves to do drawings and paintings. She has been into paintings since class one. Also, she loves to play basketball.
“My mother was always supportive in my love and passion for drawings. She was just scared about modeling. Although whatever steps I take, she is always supportive.”
Taking baby steps daily, the Tibetan model is on her way to accomplish her dreams and making her mother proud.
