Relaxing winter skincare routine
The environment dries out our skin in the winter. No matter how much we moisturize, our skin ends up drying out and evaporating. That is why it is important to moisturize and hydrate the skin but also to prepare so that the moisture does not leave. We’ve prepared 5 do’s and 5 don’ts for dry skin in the wintertime. Let us start with the do’s first.
DO’s
- Daily habits to keep skin hydrated
Make sure the indoor environment is maintained between 18 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius and also 40% to 60% humidity levels. Continuously moisturize with spray mist. Excessive cleansing and showering can weaken your skin barrier making you lose more moisture. You should always try to reduce the number of times you rub and cleanse your skin. Try to cleanse and wipe your face gently. Rough fabric aggravates the skin, and it can make the skin dry and itchy. So, try to wear comfortable cotton clothing.
- Eat foods that keep your skin hydrated
You must give equal importance to caring for the skin’s interior wise as you care for the exterior. Drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water every day and eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in moisture. Especially if you have dry skin, try to take in food with amino acids such as broccoli, avocados, carrots, and honey. They are all-natural moisturizers.
- Hydrating ingredients that will keep your skin moisturized
Ingredients such as avocado oil and fentanyl ceramides help moisturize the skin. The ravines contain propolis help remove the active oxygen that speeds aging in the skin and also helps with elasticity and moisturization. This could also fight inflammation and irritation and threatens the skin’s immunity. Nourishing ampoules are perfect for the winter and it’s even better if they contain soothing properties like Cantella Asiatica.
Pentanol commonly used in natural cosmetics helps hydrate sensitive skin and also prevents itchiness and inflammation on dry skin. The ingredient Ceramide helps prevent the loss of moisture on the skin. Avocado oil, on the other hand, protects the skin making it perfect for dry winters.
- Use oils the moisturize the skin
During the winter, when the wind is crazy cold, your skin cannot only feel itchy but also painful from the cold. Using purified vegetable oil or jojoba oil helps moisturize the skin and penetrates deep into the skin to help regenerate it. We recommend that you select natural oils to increase moisturizing power.
- Hydrating post-cleanse night care
Generally, almost one-fourth of the skin’s moisture evaporates one minute after cleansing. Make sure you apply proper skincare on your face within at least 5 minutes of cleansing.
The main point of winter skincare is nourishment and protection. Maintain this against moisture and strengthen the skin barrier to prevent itchiness and dryness. Use a low-pH cleanser that helps balance the skin’s pH level and gives an instant softening and hydrating effect to the skin. Using cleanser not only exfoliates the skin but has anti-bacterial properties that help fight skin acne.
Don’ts
- Avoid skin drying habits
Drying your hair before applying your skincare dries out your skin super bad. Make sure to supply your skincare before drying your hair. When rinsing your hair, make sure you don’t get shampoo or conditioner on your face. No matter how gentle, surfactants and silicone contained in these products can block your pores and create problems on your face.
- Avoid foods that dry out the skin
If you have a bad habit of eating fast food, spicy food, salty food, and oily food too often, then you have a chance of not only making your skin dry but getting eczema, acne, or hives. It is also suggested to drink water over caffeinated beverages.
- Don’t use ingredients that dry out your skin
Alcohol and ethanol are famous for drying out the skin. These two can make the skin feel cool for a moment but long-term use could strip away moisture from your skin. So, steer away from it. If these ingredients continue to contact the skin, it can even cause itchiness.
- Don’t frequent exfoliations
We often turn to exfoliation if our skin becomes rough and dry or if our makeup does not apply very well. However frequent exfoliation can cause hard irritation to the skin, removing skin that shouldn’t be removed and eventually causing the layer of dead cells to be thicker.
- Don’t harshly cleanse
Harsh cleansing for dry skin in the winter is not. we tend to use hot water when it’s cold outside but hot water could lower the temperature of your skin. This releases the skin’s moisture and damages the layer of lipids within the skin barrier. Because it is difficult to cleanse thoroughly with cold water, we recommend you use lukewarm water.
